SOME NUMBERS

8 books.  Over 170 published papers.  Over 250 invited or contributed talks across US, Europe and Asia.  About 40 courses taught at CMU and Illinois, over the last 25 years.  12 US patents.   Google Scholar says my H-Index == 42 at the moment. Microsoft Academic Search says I’m in the Top 100 authors in the CS Hardware & Architecture domain.   My Erdos number is 4.

WHERE MY STUDENTS GO

Since I get asked about this a lot, given the breadth of stuff I’ve worked on, I decided to just make a picture.  This is where my PhD students end up, and a logo cloud of current and also former positions for some of them.

Illinois CS & ECE hosted a “Chicago After Hours” event in October 2012, which brought several Chicago entrepreneurs and tech companies to campus.  A very cool part of this event was a panel discussion I hosted, with these participants (left to right):  Brad Keywell (cofounder of Groupon and Lightbank), me, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel,  Mike Evans (cofounder of GrubHub), and Eric Lunt (CTO of BrightTag).
